How to read this

The answer is orientative. A reduced or zero tier applies only to the listed supplies in a category, never to every product in it, and the exact product can change the treatment. Confirm the rate with the linked authority source and have a tax adviser confirm a binding decision.

Questions

How does the match work?

Your description and the jurisdiction's complete list of VAT rates are sent to a fast language model, which must return one of those rates or nothing at all. The server rejects any rate that is not in the jurisdiction's reviewed list, and falls back to the authored categories when the model is unsure or unavailable.

Is the matched rate binding?

No. It is orientation. A reduced or zero tier applies only to the listed supplies in a category, never to every product in it, and the exact product, its packaging and how it is supplied can change the treatment.

What does the confidence mean?

It is the model's own assessment of how clearly your description maps to one rate. Low confidence is a signal to verify, not a different answer.

Why is there a limit?

The match calls a paid model on your behalf, so it is free but limited to 20 requests per hour per address. Repeated identical lookups are cached and do not count against a second call.

Orientation only. The matched rate is orientation, not tax advice. An AI-assisted match can be wrong; the confidence and basis are shown so you can judge it. The linked authority source governs a binding decision.
